Directions to USA&M

   USA&M of Oregon has made its specialty the effective administration of mediations and arbitrations.  We provide impartial administrative and consulting services and offer a panel of over 30 well-respected attorneys and senior judges with experience in ADR and proven track records.  Since opening in 1989, USA&M of Oregon has successfully administered thousands of mediations and arbitrations.

   Our role is not to act as a legal representative for any party, but to provide impartial administrative and consulting services. Our experienced case manager can provide information about a mediator’s style, personal background and settlement rates.

   The case manager can also provide references about attorneys or parties who have worked with a mediator so you can gather further information on panel members.

   With our administrative services, when the parties and the mediator sit down at the session, they do so with a clean slate and the mediator is not biased by impressions left by preliminary negotiations.

Fee Policy:   USA&M is quite competitive – in most instances if you compare half-day and whole-day rates to our hourly rates we are more economical.

    USA&M charges a scheduling fee to set up the mediation and the mediator charges an hourly fee.  The scheduling fee is earned once the Notice of Mediation is sent out. There is no charge for one reschedule of a mediation, after that there is a $50 charge per change-of-date.  A modest cancellation fee is charged if a session is cancelled within 10 business days of the scheduled date.  A few mediators also charge a cancellation fee.  Please contact us for further information on fees.

USA&M’s services include:

· Approaching the other party to see if they are favorable to ADR – the scheduling fee is nominal and no fee is charged unless all parties agree to a session;

· coordinating the date and the time of the session – no need to have your office use their time to make phone calls back and forth. If a case needs to be rescheduled – simply give us a call and we will handle all the scheduling details;

· helping the parties to select a neutral from the USA&M panel – we can assist in matching the right mediator to the case by providing useful information about our panel;

· finding a neutral location to hold the session, including our suite of conference rooms in downtown Portland;

· and helping parties to reach fee agreements.

   With our administrative services, when the parties and the mediator sit down at the session, they do so with a clean slate and the mediator is not biased by impressions left by preliminary negotiations.
