Practice Experience:
Mr. Holmes is a full-time mediator and arbitrator with over 38 years of civil litigation and dispute resolution experience in a broad range of civil litigation. He has participated in the settlement of thousands of lawsuits and has extensive experience in all forms of dispute resolution. He has participated in advanced training for mediators with USA&M, the ABA Dispute Resolution Section, and the University of Washington Law School. He has provided mediation training with USA&M to insurance claims representatives. He previously had extensive experience as a trial lawyer with a law practice that regularly included representing both plaintiffs and defendants and included involvement in cases of significant exposure in multiple areas including personal injury and wrongful death, medical and legal malpractice, product liability and toxic tort cases; construction matters, property cases, liquor liability cases, professional liability, business litigation, real estate, employment matters, sexual harassment and sexual abuse cases; public body liability, and insurance. His practice is currently limited to his work in serving as a mediator and arbitrator. He mediates regularly in all of the areas of his former law practice.
Professional Activities:
Mr. Holmes is a Past President of the Multnomah Bar Association. In addition, he is a former member of the House of Delegates of The American Bar Association and currently is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the ABA. He also previously served as a member of the Variance Committee of the Portland Planning Committee. He currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Windward Condominium Association. In recent years, he was appointed by Oregon's current Chief Justice to a task force on the future of Oregon’s court system. He has been a legal and mediation education speaker and presenter for USA&M, employers, OLI, Oregon State Bar—Professional Liability Fund, and other professional associations.
