WILLIAM G. WHEATLEY

Practice Experience:

Mr. Wheatley has been practicing law for 47 years.  After three years of practice with Thwing, Jaqua & O’Reilly in Eugene, Mr. Wheatley and John Jaqua opened their own firm in 1962.  When John Jaqua retired in 1989, Mr. Wheatley became the firm’s senior partner.  The firm is now known as Jaqua & Wheatley, LLC.  Mr. Wheatley’s practice includes representation of plaintiffs and defendants in State and Federal courts involving personal injury, insurance defense, business litigation, professional liability, product liability, and medical malpractice.

 

Professional Activities:

Mr. Wheatley has been active in both Lane County Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar, serving as Chairman of the Board of Bar Examiners in 1970.  He served on the Board of Governors from 1991 to 1994, and served as President of the Oregon State Bar for the 1993-94 term.  In addition, Mr. Wheatley also founded and served as Chairman of the Oregon State Bar Historical Committee from 1994-1996, a committee on which he still serves.  He has been a speaker at various Bar educational seminars.

 

Mr. Wheatley has been listed in “Best Lawyers of America” since its first publication in 1983.  He has received the highest rating possible in Martindale-Hubbell, “AV” for more than 25 years.  Mr. Wheatley was inducted as Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1981.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the Federation of Insurance Counsel.

 

Mediation Experience:

Mr. Wheatley has had considerable experience in serving as an arbitrator and mediator.  He has been appointed as arbitrator in a number of cases involving the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.  He has served as arbitrator or mediator in a variety of cases at the request of other attorneys.  He has also participated in numerous mediation and arbitration proceedings while representing his own client.
